School of Business

Because business is a calling

Cairn’s School of Business prepares students for excellence in business and leadership through a program centered on Christ and the Bible. In addition to learning the hard and soft skills of the business environment, students also develop the character needed to excel as a Christian leader in the workplace, as well as in their homes, churches, and ministries. Taught by business leaders and educators who serve as mentors, students join a community of like-minded business professionals committed to serving Christ — wherever God has called them to be.

ACCOUNTING

Students who complete Cairn’s Accounting program are prepared to take the Certified Public Accountant examination.

Students in the Accounting program follow Cairn’s double-degree format to earn a BS in Bible and a BS in Business Administration. They may also choose the University’s dual-level program format, earning a BS in Bible and an MBA or a BS in Business Administration and an MBA. The Accounting program offers in-depth studies in organizational finance, compliance, and tax, as well as a basic foundation in business, management, and ethics.

Along with their business coursework, students study the University core of biblical studies and liberal arts, learning what it means to be a well-rounded, educated person of integrity in the workplace. They have the opportunity to participate in Enactus, an international student organization that promotes community service, educational outreach, and entrepreneurship.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Cairn’s Business Administration program allows students to study business along with biblical studies and liberal arts, and learn what it means to be an educated person of integrity in the workplace.

The business programs at Cairn emphasize professional excellence, responsibility, and the application of biblical wisdom in the marketplace. Students earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.  They have the option to pursue a double-degree, earning a BS in Bible as well. They may also choose to pair an undergraduate degree in Bible or Business Administration with one of the Master’s degrees offered through the School of Business in a dual-level format (see “Dual-Level Degrees” for more information).

Within the Business Administration Major, students can choose to focus their interests and studies in a specific area of the business field.  Students in these concentrations select electives in their chosen discipline, then typically pursue internship experience in that area.

COMPUTER SCIENCE

At Cairn, we know that a successful career in computer science requires more than just textbook knowledge. At a time when the fields of IT and business are converging, Cairn’s Computer Science program fosters hands-on skill development in both computer programming and business — enabling you to build a career, not just a body of knowledge.

Alongside a strong base in business, Bible, and theology, our Computer Science major includes diverse programming courses, ranging from mobile applications to multimedia to interactive web-based design. You’ll develop the creativity, logic, business skills, and ethics to serve Christ and others well in the tech-based workplaces that are dynamically shaping tomorrow’s world.

Students majoring in Computer Science or Information Systems take the same classes until their fourth semester, exposing you to both career paths before pursuing more specialized coursework. With programming and information system courses beginning in your first year, you gain hands-on experience immediately.

Students graduate with a BS degree. Our graduates are work-ready, prepared by hands-on experience with the software and systems used by today’s companies and organizations.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS

In a time when the fields of IT and business are converging, Cairn’s Information Systems program prepares aspiring IT professionals to address real-world business opportunities and challenges. Preparing for one of today’s fastest-growing fields, IS majors at Cairn gain the hands-on experience in troubleshooting and working with the types of networks, databases, and communication systems needed by today’s ministries, nonprofits, and companies.

With access to a brand-new computer lab funded by the Forward campaign, IS majors also have access to a hands-on lab with an independent Windows server and switches, providing first-hand experience with network design and troubleshooting. Bible-based, business-oriented, and IT-focused, Cairn’s Information Systems major prepares you to serve Christ and others well in both faith-based and secular workplaces.

BusinessStudent

In my business classes, it has been emphasized that in every aspect of my life I am to be living for God. As I head into the business world, I will have an opportunity unlike any other. Having a biblically integrated worldview will not only give me a work ethic that employers are looking for, but more importantly will give me the desire to live intentionally with every person I come in contact with.
