Biography

Before teaching at Cairn, Charles Dunn spent 9 years teaching literature and writing in urban charter schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His journey started as a founding teacher of Pride Academy Charter School in East Orange, New Jersey in 2008. In his eight years at Pride he helped rewrite and update the English Language Arts Curriculum and helped oversee the school’s shift to Common Core Standards and 21st Century Skills. He also had the opportunity to pilot and promote the use of Google Apps for Education (now known as G-Suite) in order to increase student rigor in the research process and study of literature.

In 2016 he moved his family back to the Philadelphia area in order to continue his career in the city he loves. This move also gave him the opportunity to pursue his passion for the humanities through teaching at Cairn. He hopes to deepen his knowledge both in the field of humanities and urban education in the coming years.
