Teaching at Cairn since 2025
Professor Sun Min Lee is the director of choral activities. For the last three decades, Ms. Lee has been regarded as an inspiring conductor, passionate pedagogue, and dedicated church musician in the tri-state area. She has enjoyed directing numerous choirs and orchestras of all ages from amateurs to professional musicians. Ms. Lee currently directs the Cairn University Chorale and teaches choral conducting at Cairn.
Prior to her residency at Cairn, Ms. Lee was a professor, director of Lehigh choral arts and director of the treble choir, Dolce, at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. Ms. Lee directed the Lehigh Choral Arts performing both choral and orchestral works in the tri-state area, as well as on various international tours. Her classes included aural skills, conducting, and overseeing the vocal program. One of her noticeable achievements at Lehigh was to commission and premiere “I Rise: Women in Song” by Reena Esmail. In 2004–2012, Ms. Lee was a conducting professor at her alma mater, Westminster Choir College of Rider University, where she conducted Chapel Choir, Schola Cantorum, and Symphonic Choir, and taught conducting and musicianship courses. Her choirs performed in NJPAC, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kimmel Center, and often collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Joseph Flummerfelt, Andrew Megill, Joe Miller, Kathy Saltzman Romey, Stephen Paulus, Anton Armstrong and Lorin Maazel with the New York Philharmonic. Ms. Lee also was a faculty member at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.
Ms. Lee has been invited to direct high school and collegiate festivals, church music workshops, and conducting masterclasses. Her most recent appearances include directing the PMEA District VI High School Honors Choir and at the Csehy Summer School of Music in 2024. Ms. Lee graduated from the Presbyterian College and Theological Seminary in South Korea, Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music in Hungary, Westminster Choir College, and studied at the Eastman School of Music. She is honored to have teachers and mentors such as Joseph Flummerfelt, William Weinert, Péter Erdei, Katalin Kiss, Andrew Megill, Chang Hoon Park, and Robin Leaver.
As a dedicated church musician, Ms. Lee is the choir director at Praise Presbyterian Church in Somerset, New Jersey, where she leads a 50-member adult choir, youth orchestra, and chime choir. Ms. Lee is excited and grateful to join and serve the Cairn community.
