L. Rick Hilborn

Education

Mr. Hilborn holds a BS in Music Education, an MM in Percussion Performance, and an MM in Music Theory, all from West Chester University. He has served as a district president of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, and in 2009 he received the PMEA Citation of Excellence for his teaching skills. In 2022, he had the unique privilege and honor of being one of 300 band directors from across the entire country to be selected and participate in the “Band of Band Directors” which marched in the Rose Bowl Parade. Then, in 2023, he was selected by his peers as the Cavalcade of Bands “Director of the Year” recipient.

 

Biography

Mr. L. Rick Hilborn recently retired after teaching instrumental music and music theory for a combined total of 39 years in the Allentown (PA), Whitehall-Coplay (PA), and the Nazareth Area (PA) school districts. During his tenure at these schools, his ensembles received numerous invitations to perform at All-State, All-Eastern, and National Conferences. Rick is currently an active member and participant of the Allentown Band, America’s oldest community band, as well as a member and assistant conductor of the Nazareth Area Community Band.

 

Additional Information

Rick and his wife Carol have two daughters, Lauren and Ariane, as well as two grandchildren, Landon and Audrianna. His family resides in Nazareth, PA, where he is also the assistant director of music at St. John’s U.C.C. Rick loves all kinds of outdoor activities, especially gardening, running, and taking his dog Cannoli for long walks.
