For the first time since 2019, Cairn fully opened the campus for the long-anticipated Homecoming. The days leading up to September 23–24 were full of excitement as preparations for the weekend commenced.
Following Friday’s homecoming chapel given by President Williams, the weekend kicked off with Lil’ Sibs weekend, where students could bring younger family members on campus for the weekend. In addition to Lil’ Sibs weekend, Friday evening was the annual Garden Party, hosted by President Williams. Students enjoyed refreshments, music, dancing, and mingling with old and new friends at the President’s house.
On Saturday, students, families, and alumni gathered to enjoy a variety of events. The walkway was packed with a multitude of activities and entertainment that all could enjoy. There, people could express their creative sides in an art tent, enjoy live music performed by students, and eat from food trucks of nearby establishments. Beside the walkway, several amusement rides and games had been set up. Whether it be mechanical bull riding, rock climbing, or swing ride, people of all ages could participate in the lively, carnival-like atmosphere.
Down at the Stillman Athletic Complex, spectators had the chance to appreciate the newly built complex. The complex hosted an alumni baseball game, a lacrosse scrimmage, and men’s and women’s soccer games played throughout the day. The events also opened the perfect opportunity for the public debut of the Cairn mascot. Between halves, the Highlander invited kids to join him on the field for mini-competitions.
In the afternoon, more of Cairn’s musical talents were put on display. Outside of Chatlos Chapel, Dr. McCollum led the Cairn Chorale in a preview of several of the pieces they are preparing for upcoming concerts. The group closed with “For This Joy,” a piece they sang with chorale alumni, which they briefly practiced together before the concert..
These and many other events scattered throughout the day brought in a crowd of family and alumni, eager to celebrate and re-experience the campus once again. The opportunity to appreciate the new and reminisce on the old was even sweeter this year.
