Cairn 10: Do We Really Need Gym Class? (with Nancy Halliday ’73)

It’s just gym class, after all! The goal is for people to throw balls at each other, right? Wrong!

Dr. Nancy Halliday ’73 joins the podcast to speak to the true purpose of physical education. Nancy was an associate professor at Hofstra University, interim dean of the School of Education, and chair of the Health Studies and Kinesiology department after 17 years as associate professor and chair of the PE Department at Kings College. A published scholar, veteran educator, and Christian Camp director, Nancy shares a new and data-driven perspective, including how Christian camps got it right first, the role of one’s actual potential in physical education, and changes in overall education in her experience.
