Cairn University offers a number of international academic and service opportunities for students. These offerings are diverse, ranging from short-term missions trips to cross-cultural internships and study-abroad programs.
Study abroad is a culturally and intellectually enriching experience, uniquely preparing students to serve Christ in the church, society, and the world. Through partnerships with BestSemester, GO-ED, Rome With Purpose, Veritas Christian Study Abroad, AMBEX, and Jerusalem University College, Cairn students have the opportunity to choose from over a dozen programs throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, North America, Latin America, and the Middle East. In recent semesters, students have studied in Australia, India, Uganda, Costa Rica, Jerusalem, and Oxford, England.
Each of Cairn’s First Year Programs provides students with an international learning opportunity, ranging from a Holy Land study tour in Israel, to museum tours in Italy, to urban ministry in Guatemala.
Open to US citizens and nationals from around the globe, Cairn’s European campus offers students the opportunity to earn Graduate degrees in Education in as little as three summers. Located on the campus of Black Forest Academy in Kandern, Germany, these programs offer week-long modular courses leading to an MS in Education or MS in Educational Leadership and Administration, as well as ASCI Teacher or Principal certification (for qualified applicants).
For those living globally, Cairn’s cohort program also offers a three-year program leading to an MS in Education, provided on-site for host schools all over the world. Host schools must provide ten or more students, who will take courses throughout the year, scheduled at the host school’s convenience.
For students seeking global professional experiences, international student teaching and internships are strongly encouraged. For Education majors, Cairn’s partnership with CCTECC opens doors to student teaching in over 130 international Christian schools. For other majors, international internships have been arranged with mission agencies, global churches, non-profit organizations, and for-profit businesses.
Each year, the Cairn community participates in various short-term missions trips, partnering with missionaries and churches around the world. Opportunities for service include teaching English as a Second Language, sports clinics, medical clinics, construction, educational seminars and programs, and evangelism through music, teaching, and personal relationship.
Students also explore cross-cultural ministry and career opportunities during Cairn’s annual Global Mission Week. Each winter, missionaries are hosted on campus, providing a week of chapels, classroom lectures, special events, and opportunities for small-group and one-on-one conversations.
The Cairn community is enriched by international students from dozens of countries, whose global perspective enhances the entire student body’s experience. Cairn’s International Office helps students navigate the application and visa process, then continues to support them throughout their University experience.
