  1. Gil was my faculty advisor and mentor. I spent many weekends in his home and church while a student at PCB. He ignited my passion for Christian Education and ministry. I will always remember his teaching leadership from the book of Nehemiah. Just last fall we exchanged emails. He has now heard ‘well done, good and faithful servant’. His legacy carries on through the ministry of thousands of students he touched.

  2. “Doc” Peterson was a wonderful friend and mentor to me both at PCB as well as at Trinity Ev. Div. School. As a college student his personal interest in me made a lasting impact. I had the privilege of serving as Gil’s grad assistant in seminary and he and Dolores let us “crash” at their house while waiting for a call from the church in Pennsylvania where we served before going to Iceland. All through the years since then Doc has been a tremendous champion of us and our ministry, praying for us and often sending words of encouragement. His wonderful straightforward and authentic way remains a legacy that many of us will remember. I will truly miss him. Betsy’s and my prayers go out to Dolores and his family.

  3. I was privileged to be taught the Book of Nehemiah by Dr. Peterson which has been life changing, 1 Cor. 10:31; Ps. 73:25,26.

  4. This was a great event to focus on this issue and bring more people together with a heart to help fight to break the chains that these ladies find them selves in. This is a fight that needs not to be fought alone anymore.

  5. I have had the pleasure to meet and talk personally with these gentlemen. They are wonderful and Godly men. I am excited to see how their impact will make a difference to Cairn University.

  6. This is really exciting! Dr. Gossard is really an inspiring teacher. Even though I had her for a general science (Astronomy), her method of teaching inspired me to really get students to understand and not spit back memorized facts.

  7. As a graduate of P.C.B. Evening School class of 1970, I have been greatly blessed by the professors of that day and the on going growth of the School. At the ripe old age of 92, I often think back on the mission trips I was privileged to lead to Faith Mountain Mission, Guage, KY. where I served for 16 years as Director.
Praise God that we serve a Risen Saviour who has a plan for each one of us and for the world. His Word tells us that He will carry out His plan to completion regardless of the circumstances and that we (His children) have a home with Him for eternity. That very thought still gives me “goose bumps”.
If you ever wonder why you are here or what you are to do. The Lord gives you a very clear answer in Matt;28:18-20. He has cattle on a thousand hills but He needs your hands and feet to do what He wants you to do.

  8. The relationship between Israel and the United States is indeed special and needs to be ongoing. However, this relationship has never been as tenuous as it is now. We have a president who has done everything in his power to marginalize and trivialize Israel. Instead of supporting Israel, Obama is supporting Israel’s enemies. But, Iran is only one of the challenges Israel faces. There has been a sharp increase in anti Semitism, particularly in Europe and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention organizations like the U.N. and EU are notorious for their unjustified and bigoted anti Israel agenda. There are political campaigns such as BDS who stoke the fires of hatred, slander, DE legitimization of Israel on college campuses across the country and around the world. President Obama has already stated that he will veto any legislation that increases sanctions on Iran. Recently, a lot has been made of Prime Minister Netanyahu acceptance to speak to the House and Senate. In an act of vindictiveness, President Obama has decided not to attend and this reverberates throughout the entire Democratic party. What is often forgotten is the fact that from day one, Obama has excluded Israel in participating in “negotiations” with Iran on an issue that effects Israel’s survival. If Obama would have included Netanyahu, there would be no need for Netanyahu to have the speech. In addition, Obama and the rest of the world has conveniently forgotten the fact that for the last several decades, Iran has been run by a bunch of fanatical lunatics who tortures and murders their own people, persecutes ethnic minorities, and even has their own terrorist group, Hezbollah, who goes around the world committing barbaric acts of murder. In the meantime, Israel, who is a free country with a constitution, has strict laws against acts of violence of any form, and has freedom of religion, is treated like a leper. This is why it’s essential that religious leaders of all faiths, supports Israel. We live in very turbulent times and only moral clarity can get us through them and onto better days

  9. The Friends of Israel Institute of Jewish Studies/Israel & Archaeology program at PBU/Cairn had a huge impact in my life. My husband and I are now part of the 0.1% of the Evangelical Christians who are active AIPAC members. I encourage you to attend the upcoming AIPAC Policy Conference in D.C. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be one of the guest speakers at this bi-partisan event and I can’t wait. Hope to see you there! http://www.policyconference.org

    1. Well, Tyler, as a former English teacher, I can be
prone to hyperbole. But in this case, it’s possible that thousands could
be listening. (We do have over eleven thousand living alumni out there, so call
me an optimist.) Probably what I meant to say is “they could be
listening…” but these are mostly recorded in one “take,” so you hear what we
say as we have said it. That’s one of the reasons I think they’re
fun. Thanks for responding. That’s one of our goals!

  10. He was a professor for me when I attended PCB Evening School at the Calvary Baptist (Bristol,PA) campus. He was a great encouragement and helped me grow in my faith and preparing to serve the LORD. Prayers for his family. I missed hearing this previously, I guess Cairn announced it but I hadn’t seen it.

  11. Loved Dr. Emmons Biblical Introduction class… Was my first A in college! (Side note Dave Emmons is younger than Dan)

  12. I too took Dr. Emmons every chance I could (then Mr. Emmons). I had no idea he was pretty new at the time. He was knowledgeable and kind and a joy to have as a professor. May God bless him in his retirement and I have a feeling that he will continue to be busy ministering in the Word and working.

  13. I first knew him as Uncle Dick. He put me up on his shoulders and it was So far off the ground that I kicked and pulled his hair. Good times. But without Uncle Dick and Aunt Fran in our lives, my parents and subsequently my brother and I would never have come to know Christ. He gave us the greatest gift of all. I have fond memories of playing at the Wallkill house and not so fond memories of my brother Chris and the boys leaving me behind (only half joking). But my first pastor and one with such an incredible impact on our lives… he blessed us.

  14. Dr. Emmons formed an opinion about you in the first day of class & it stuck with you for the rest of the semester. No matter how hard you worked, you couldn’t shake that first impression. So coming to PCB as a new Christian who couldn’t spell all books of the bible on the first try, I wasn’t one of his favorites. He made learning to love the bible extra hard as he made me feel as stupid as he could. When I was still spelling one or two books wrong in the second week of classes, instead of talking to me about it after class, he mocked me in front of the entire class. I managed to avoid taking any other classes with him the rest of the time I was at PCB/PBU. I found other professors to be better teachers.

  15. Well….I came to PBU as a grad student in counseling, but I did get to know Dr. Emmons as I rented a house with a few other students from him. He was pretty nice about it, even when we had to call him late at night to arrange to have leaks in the ceiling fixed or to replace a broken down dishwasher. If he had not allowed us to rent at his place so cheaply I would not have been able to afford to work my way through graduate school, so God definitely used him to provide for a nobody like myself and I will never stop being grateful for that.

  16. Andrew is a remarkable young man. A few years ago, he was my son’s counselor at a Christian summer camp, and he was influential and impactful then. God is going to use this young man.

  17. Thanks to all our alumni who came out this year! This elegant write up is a great summation of a wonderful week.

  18. Kris, may you always serve & obey The Lord throughout your journey to heaven. You are such a blessing Babe. I Love You Lots & Jesus Loves You More. Jesus view always. <3 Cairn University is our family for sure. To God be the glory!

  19. Keith, Great job and timely. I’ve been working on my own tax reporting for the past year and wondering about what changes will do to impact next year’s planning. Just a suggestion to the producers of the podcast, the music intro and post tags was too loud to distinguish what you were saying, especially in the beginning.

  20. This is so helpful you know l am 29 years old but l have always been undecided. I think has given me a wider view and l can see the type of course l want to pursue

  21. What church affiliation is this, does it follow Lutheran theology. Is this an accredited college recognized in the state of Mn?what college other than Cairn a accepts the comparable credits? What is tuition for the ,9 month program, and what is the cost for room and board? Do you have dorms or what is your housing situations? Is this a private for profit University? What are the entrance requirements

  22. Thanks to Stephanie Kaceli for this informative. Stephanie is brilliant and a great Spiritual Leader.
I’m so thankful for her genuinely sweet attitude and desire for excellence. Cairn is blessed to have her as Director of the Library.

  23. I’m glad that your article mentions the fact that there are bountiful opportunities for those who attend religious education. My son is graduating from high school next year. I’ll discuss with him whether or not he wants to pursue religious schooling.

  24. Thank you for all that you do!
Very nice of all at Cairn and for our family to be thought of warms all our hearts.
    James Fay

  25. I was honored to visit on October 6, 2012, which was named Grace Livingston Hill Day, and heard her grandson, Robert Munce (adopted son of her daughter, Ruth Livingston Hill) and author of the best of her biographies, speak twice that day. Daena Creel, an authority on Grace Livingston Hill and her aunt Isabella Alden, who operates the official website, http://www.gracelivingstonhill.com, also spoke briefly. As a lifelong reader of Grace Livingston Hill books, I was thrilled to see the display and meet Robert and Marti Munce. Daena Creel remains a dear friend. A couple of FaceBook pages provide a place to discuss her books and how our lives have been, and still are, impacted by her novels.

  26. Thank you for sharing this Saya Lee. It makes to reflect myself on where I am right now and gives me some insights about Christian college. I always wanted to study with like-minded people (Christian friends). But God has called me in the place where there are many people who don’t know Him. But I am always thankful for all the people I met on the journey. Glory to God!

  27. Proud to call him a friend and a brother in Christ. His visual arts are not only recognized in the Philippines, but also abroad, awarded a couple o times in Florence, Italy.

  28. When I first arrived at PCB on 7 January 1977 from Rhodesia now Zimbabwe, it was Miss Mae Stewart who welcomed me with open hands. As a young man, this was my first time to be overseas and see snow. She was my first NT Greek teacher. After graduation I went to Dallas Seminary where I studied for 8 years before proceeding to the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. After 11 years at Harare Theological College, Zimbabwe, I then returned to the UK to pursue PhD studies at Cambridge.
I thank God for Miss Stewart for investing in me during my wonderful years of studies (characterised by culture shock) at Cairn University.
Coming from Rhodesia, Cairn was my first institution where, as an African student, I studied in a multi-racial institution.
I Thank God for Miss Stewart

  29. Lydia,
Thank you for your thoughtful and well written essay about Miss Stewart. I never had a chance to sit in one of her classes, but my dear wife did and I was amazed at how Miss Stewart could capture the attention of some of the brightest minds in a Bible College (University) setting. There is a special place in Heaven for Miss Stewart.

  30. I found this podcast fascinating. I graduated PCB in 1977 from the social work department, when the school was still at 18th and Arch. So, I spent 4 years in the inner city. I am 65 and white but 3 years ago I found my way into an urban church plant in Lansing, MI. The Pastor at City Life Lansing is a hip hop rapper musician. He is white but married a Mexican woman and his vision for the church is “all races, all faces, you belong here.” I have never been in a Christian church that is so incredibly racially, ethnically, economically, and educationally diverse. It is quite a phenomenon. I am not a rapper, but I am a poet and writer and I am part of the worship team who invites me to share my poetry as part of worship about every 8 weeks. I have had more response in this environment than I ever did among white, conservative, middle class women. There are rappers there who tell me how much my poetry means to them and I am blown away. This church is a cultural stretch for me (though I don’t mind being stretched) and I would be interested in learning what kind of access I could have to Brady Goodwin’s class and/or books. Is there an online version available?

  31. Thanks for sharing – I always say I enjoy all kinds of music but rap isn’t one I have explored much. Thanks for the insights and artist suggestions.

  32. Very sound view on the hip hop culture, I would definitely like to hear more. Very rarely do I ever hear this particular culture and music discussed with an evangelical approach with a Biblical Worldview. 👍

  33. Thank you for the very important and up-to-date information on a number of significant changes in tax legislation that affect both retirement planning and planned donations.

  34. Excellent advice and tip for those looking to participate in the job market, as well as for seasoned professionals who need to stay relevant in job search tools.

  35. Dr. Williams…thanks for the message. I really appreciate the candid updates and the prayer you and the rest of the university are offering up on behalf of your students and alum! May God continue His work!

  36. Thank you, Todd for your encouraging message and updates as to what is transpiring with students, and the university as a whole. I do lift you and Dawn and the rest of the administrative staff, faculty, students and board members before the Lord on a regular basis and thank Him for His provision for each of you as you serve Him each day. Keep up the good work you are all doing to educate young men and women to serve the Lord Jesus now and in the future. I treasure my time and education at PCB (Cairn) many years ago. Much learned, some forgotten but He is still teaching me at 85.
    Blessings,
    Jim

  37. Thanks Dr. Williams! Great message! Our hearts still belong to CU! We are praying for you, the staff and students. We are so thankful for the godly impact made on the students as Jesus remains the core at CU! Blessings from Janice, Larry and Brigid Shehan (2015)!

  38. Thank you Todd. Good to hear from you and the university. Ross (69) and Nancy (71) Weidman. Lancaster PA

  39. Thanks for this post on the English major. I would love to print it out and post it on our bulletin board at Azusa Pacific University. Could someone send it to me as a PDF document? With permission to post, of course. –Emily Griesinger, Director of Graduate Studies

  40. Eugene Vickers will always be one of the persons I will remember in my life. He greeted me the first time I visited Philadelphia College of Bible. I was not planning to attend college, I was with a friend who was interested. But Mr. Vickers offered me a chance of a life time. I took it. He was such a kind wise presence at PCB and I know God placed him there for many who needed his very special guidance..

  41. Is the school of education part of the online program? If so, I will like more information.

    1. Hi Farsennah,
Undergraduate School of Education programs are not part of Cairn Online at this time. You can view the full list of available programs at cairn.edu/cairnonline. A list of online graduate School of Education programs can also be found at cairn.edu/grad.

  42. Hi Lydia,
I’m 2008 graduate from Masters of Science Christian Counseling Program. I was wondering if Cairn is offering any course from this program for online auditing.
    Thank you

    1. Hi Carol,
Auditing is an available option for any Cairn Online course. As an alumna, you also get one free audit each semester! If you’re interested, you can contact [email protected] for more information.

  43. Thank you for acknowledging and repenting forthe institution’s conscious contribution to the historical and generational harm caused towards black Americans.

  44. Praise the Lord for man like Pastor Melvin Floyd. I never met him, but I hope that Cairn University will continue to be reminded of Mr. Floyd’s legacy, to NEVER lose sight of the ministry we are called to do regardless of any academic achievement!

  45. The core curriculum classes look great! Very appropriate and much needed instruction for students in this day and age! Thank you for your work in thinking through all of this!

  46. Looking forward to this performance and the laughter! Blessings to the cast and crew!!💚🙃 keep looking up!

  47. WOW!!!!! I remember Ms. Minto because I was in the EXCEL program at PCB (before Cairn) and she was my English teacher. She was very supportive and encouraging. This was in September 1991. I was 27 years old. I was nervous, but she was very helpful. Wow!!!!!

  48. I’m so honored to be your legacy!!! Happy birthday!!! I know you were navy, my father in law (and my father-shot in the Battle of the bulge) were both army! My dad was in the European, my father in law, in the Pacific! His name was Victor Condi. Ended up in Havertown with 8 kids, sacred heart parish. Did you know him?

  49. Miguel didn’t even mention his middle school teacher bragging about his alma mater? Dr. A and Dr Vanbillard were my favorites, they made me the teacher I am today. 15 years now at my school here in the Dominican Republic and I have had the opportunity to see many of my students seek quality education at PBU I mean Cairn.

  50. R.I.P. I took his Intro To Ministry Class back in 1999 when I was at the New Jersey Campus (PCB). He was a good teacher and kind. Sabaw Hanson Lat, 2002.
