Cairn University is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Rick Swift for the position of vice president, dean of students.
Rick comes to Cairn University with a lifelong career in higher education student affairs. After serving as a resident director for two years at Fort Wayne Bible College, he became the dean of men at Columbia International University. For six years, he oversaw the discipline, discipleship, and housing of 300 men on campus. He then transitioned into an associate dean of student services role for seven years until he assumed the role of dean of students, which he has held since 2004.
In his nearly 20-year tenure as dean, Rick oversaw all aspects of student life, including chapel, residence life, health services, career services, student government, and the academic success center. As a whole, his student life team was tasked primarily with the spiritual development of the student body, and he led several spiritual life initiatives from creation through implementation. His prioritization of spiritual growth and discipleship across all student activities and services will continue as he takes the helm of student life at Cairn.
“We are thrilled to have a proven student development leader join the Cairn Student Life Office,” said Scott Cawood, senior vice president for student affairs and administration. “Rick’s love for student leadership and nurturing men and women in their faith will be an asset to the Cairn community as we educate and care for those who study here.”
The dean of students position has been held for the past four years by Dr. Adam Porcella, who is now serving as senior vice president and provost. Rick will officially begin his duties as dean on July 1, 2022.
