Biography

David M. Shockey has taught at the University since 1978. Up until his retirement in 2016, Dr. Shockey was the chair of voice studies and conductor of the Chorale and Chamber Singers. He earned a BS in Music Education from Roberts Wesleyan College, a MMus in Voice from the Eastman School of Music, and a DMA in Vocal Performance from The Ohio State University.

Prior to joining the Cairn faculty in 1978, Dr. Shockey taught music in public schools. During the summer of 1996, he was invited to sing the lead tenor role in Mozart’s The Magic Flute for the Rome Festival Association in Italy. He has served numerous years with the Csehy Summer School of Music. In the fall of 2002, Dr. Shockey took a position at Seattle Pacific University for four years. He returned to Cairn University in 2006 to once again teach voice.
