On Saturday, September 29, Cairn alumni and their families returned to campus once again to celebrate Homecoming 2019. Attendees enjoyed a day of activities as they reconnected with friends, faculty, and staff.
Leading up to the big weekend, students heard from alumni speakers in chapel throughout the week, including our very own president, Dr. Todd Williams; businesswoman Rachel Park ’10/G’10; and accomplished author and relationship counselor Dr. John Van Epp ’80. The University was honored to welcome these alum back on campus to speak to students regarding their realms of expertise and post-graduation experiences.
On Friday evening, Cairn Athletics inducted two alumni into the Cairn University Hall of Honor. With a special ceremony that brought together former and current student-athletes, Heather Desiderio (field hockey and softball) and Jeremy Coleman (basketball) received their places in the Hall of Honor and were given the opportunity to share the wisdom gained from their achievements.
Saturday’s unending activity spanned from Brunch with the President in the morning to the men’s soccer game that finished off the evening. With the support of the Homecoming crowd, the Highlanders also competed in men’s and women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, and women’s soccer. Amidst the many athletic events, alumni and their families enjoyed food trucks, the arts tent, the Fishing Derby, live music, an inflatable obstacle course, and amusement rides such as the gravitron and the iconic Ferris wheel. All of this and more provided a full day of entertainment for all ages of the University community.
Homecoming always offers alumni a great opportunity to reconnect with the University and the programs they were involved in, such as this year’s men’s basketball and baseball alumni games, or the Chorale and the social work program reunions. Opportunities like these foster a sense of continuity and awareness within the Cairn community, proving Homecoming weekend to be an important facet of University life.
A special thanks to all who worked, volunteered, played, and attended Cairn Homecoming 2019. We look forward to welcoming all back on campus next year!
