On May 21–23, 2017, Cairn University’s Enactus team traveled to Kansas City, MO, to participate in the Enactus USA National Exposition. Enactus is an international organization encouraging colleges and universities to undertake student-led entrepreneurial projects that provide authentic business experience and help others. Regional, national, and international competitions foster a challenging environment that motivates teams to continually improve the quality of their projects.
At the national competition, Cairn’s Enactus team delivered presentations on six projects designed to serve and impact our campus, community, and the world. This year’s projects included job search and interview seminars for Cairn students, international refugees, and several community-based ministries; solar power generation on campus and with international partners; and the team’s annual Showcase for Hope event, promoting ethical international small businesses.
The Cairn Enactus team also attended the career fair that Enactus hosts during its national exposition, which featured top Enactus partner companies such as Walmart, KPMG, Unilever, Coca-Cola, Citi, Bimbo Bakeries USA, Enterprise Holdings, Synchrony Financial, and Hershey’s. This provided a great opportunity for students to interact and connect with recruiters from top companies for future job opportunities.
Advisor and Sam Walton Fellow Professor Mark Gaspar also attended the trip with the team. He shares, “Although Cairn did not advance to compete in the semifinals, the team presented flawlessly as they focused on addressing the 16 of the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Nationals was a great learning experience, and we’ll be back next year!”
