On Monday, February 5, alumnus Kevin Skaer ’93, visited Cairn to speak in chapel and share his experiences with Alpha Chi Epsilon, Cairn’s long-standing student education association. Kevin has been principal at The Christian Academy in Brookhaven, Pennsylvania for the last seven years and working as an educator at the school for a total of twenty one years.

After speaking in chapel on Monday morning on the subject of finding one’s identity in Christ, Kevin fielded questions from the Alpha Chi Epsilon students as they enjoyed lunch together in Fairview Manor. They discussed interviewing skills, the first year of teaching, how to find your niche education, professional development, discipline, teaching methods, and much more.

Alumni Director Nate Wambold talked with the students about the many educational networks being formed, as alumni educators respond to renewed efforts at bringing alumni together for support, encouragement, and professional networking.
Alpha-Chi-Epsilon“Cairn prepared me for all facets of education: pedagogy, philosophy, lesson plan preparation, and classroom management skills,” Kevin shares. “Cairn continues to prepare students for the 21st century as evidenced by the teachers we hire after they graduate from Cairn. It is a joy to see them honor Christ through their actions and instruction.”
The alumni office is eager to find ways to help alumni make an impact on the Cairn student experience, as students continue to be trained to serve Christ in the church, society, and world.
Alumni who are interested in sharing their professional experiences are invited to contact the alumni office at cairn.edu/alumni, and visit our Volunteer Page for more examples of how you can be involved.
The Christian Academy is one of many schools that has a dual-enrollment partnership with Cairn.  This partnership allows current TCA high-school students to satisfy both high school graduation and college credit requirements while taking classes in their current school. Credits earned in Cairn’s dual-enrollment program can be used at Cairn or transferred to other accredited colleges and universities.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
