Alumnus Allen Guelzo ’75 is co-winner of the 2014 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize, awarded by Gettysburg College. Recognized for the remarkable scholarship of his most recent book, Gettysburg: The Last Invasion, Guelzo shares this year’s recognition with fellow historian Martin P. Johnson (Writing the Gettysburg Address) and director Steven Spielberg (Lincoln). Read more about the award here.
Now a three-time Lincoln Prize-winner, Guelzo was a Pastoral Studies major at Cairn when he published his first historical writing – an article in Young Ambassadors on America’s Bicentennial. Since graduating in 1975, he has earned three graduate degrees, published a dozen books, and earned multiple awards for his scholarship on Abraham Lincoln. He currently serves as Henry R. Luce Professor of the Civil War Era at Gettysburg College, where he coordinates the college’s Civil War Era Studies program.
