News ArchivesApril, 2012The Ongoing Impact of the PBU Chorale in PolandIn May 2011, the Philadelphia Biblical University Chorale, under the direction of Dr. David Shockey, toured in Poland for 12 days. The final concerts of their tour were held in Wołów, a city of about 13,000. Early in the day the Chorale sang for over 100 prisoners in a maximum security prison in the town. In the evening, they performed in the rynek, or city square, in a well-attended open concert. Both concerts were sponsored by the Wołów Baptist Church. Sinclair Ferguson Speaks at ChapelDr. Sinclair B. Ferguson, Senior Minister at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina, spoke in chapel at Philadelphia Biblical University on Friday, April 20, 2012. In addition to his role at First Presbyterian Church, Dr. Ferguson is on the faculty of Redeemer Seminary in Dallas, Texas as well as part-time faculty of Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia. He is the author of some two dozen books, has authored numerous articles, and has contributed to various symposia. His writing interests have ranged from works of scholarship to books for children. PBU-SIFE Launches First Hydration StationThis spring, PBU-Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) embarked on a Hydration Station project to reduce waste on campus, with the Women for Less Waste Grant, sponsored by the national SIFE organization and o.b.®, a brand of Johnson & Johnson. On April 2, 2012, the first Hydration Station was opened for use on PBU’s campus. Bridget VanCook (Sophomore, Discipleship Counseling major) worked as the chairperson for the project and coordinated the launch event. Read more. Alumnus Named NJ Charter School Teacher of the YearPBU alumnus Stephen Charles “Charlie” Dunn ’05 was named the 2011-2012 New Jersey Charter School Teacher of the Year at the NJ Charter Schools Association Annual Conference in Atlantic City at the end of March. Weidman, 1964 - 2012Miss Lisa Weidman, PBU’s Vice President for Communications and Marketing went home to be with the Lord and embraced her Savior face to face on Easter Sunday, April 8, after a brief illness. Her mother and sisters were by her side. Read more. PBU-SIFE Named 2012 Regional ChampionsOn April 4, 2012, PBU-Students in Free Enterprise (PBU-SIFE) was named a Regional Champion at SIFE’s Regional Competition in Baltimore, Maryland, qualifying for SIFE’s National Competition to be held in Kansas City on May 22-24, 2012. 36 teams from colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic Region gathered at the event in Baltimore. Over 400 students and faculty attended. Read more. Dr. O. Herbert Hirt, 1954-2012Following a battle with cancer, Dr. O. Herbert Hirt, Dean of PBU’s School of Bible and Ministry, died on April 3, 2012, at home with his family. He had been in hospice care for a month, and many family and friends were able to spend time with him during his last days. Student Groups Host The GalleryOn Thursday evening, March 30, PBU’s Penndel Resident Life Team, the Culture and Arts Association (CAA), and PBU-Students in Free Enterprise (PBU-SIFE) together hosted The Gallery, an event that highlights PBU students’ contributions to the arts.
