Recent NewsCairn Celebrates First Centennial Commencement The Spring 2013 Commencement officially began Cairn’s Centennial Celebration of God’s faithfulness over the past 100 years. Faculty, staff, members of the Board of Trustees, family members, friends, and graduates of the class of 1963 celebrating their Golden Anniversary of graduating joined the 143 graduates receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees. Read more.Trees Dedicated in Memory of Dr. Hirt and Dr. Hsu On Friday, May 10, 2013, following the Student Celebration Chapel on the walkway, members of the University community gathered to dedicate two linden trees planted nearby dedicated in memory of Dr. Herb Hirt and Dr. Sam Hsu. The trees were a gift from the graduating class of 2012 and other donors. They are part of a plan to plant more shade trees along the walkway in the coming years. Read more.Dr. John Master Retires On May 8, 2013, faculty and staff gathered to honor Dr. John Master, Professor Emeritus, who is retiring this year after 26 years of teaching at Cairn University. Dr. Master taught Bible and Doctrine courses throughout his time here, serving as a professor and Chair of the Bible Department. Dr. Master’s son, Dr. Jonathan Master, Dean of the School of Divinity, began the afternoon’s event, sharing his perspective on his father’s career. 2013 Student Life Awards On Wednesday, May 8, 2013, students were recognized for their contributions to the Cairn community over the past year. Scott Cawood, Vice President for Student Life and Enrollment, opened the chapel hour by telling students that this was, “a Student Life day in which we get an opportunity to talk about you. You are the reason we are here.” He went on to affirm the many activities students are involved in, saying, “This is not an institution that exists to itself. It depends on you.” Read more.Cairn Celebrates White Stone Gallery's 10th Anniversary On Monday May 6, 2013, Cairn University hosted a 10th Anniversary Celebration for White Stone Gallery on campus. The day began with a public recognition made by University President Dr. Todd Williams in Chapel. Derek and Susan Hooks were invited as honored guests to attend Chapel that morning and were thanked by the student body. That evening, selected guests of honor attended a private dinner in the Café. Read more.Composers Visit Campus In the space of a week during April, two composers visited Cairn University to share with students and guests about the creative process of writing music. On April 12, 2013, Judith Lang Zaimont gave a composition masterclass and lecture before her work was performed in that evening’s Symphony Orchestra concert. On April 16, 2013, Raoul Pleskow, who recently donated many of his scores, letters, and recordings to the Masland Library at Cairn University, was hosted on campus by the School of Music and the Center for University Studies for a performance of several of his works and an interview with him. Read more.Social Work Students Participate in Advocacy Day On Tuesday, April 16, Dr. Juliet Campbell-Farrell’s Social Policy Formation and Analysis class traveled to Harrisburg, PA, to join over 600 undergraduate, graduate, and professional social workers for Legislative Advocacy Day. Over the years, social workers and members of other professions have used the event to lobby State Senators and Representatives about issues concerning their professions and the clients they serve. "The Gallery" Encourages Development of Student Art For the past few years, the Penndel Resident Life staff, in partnership with the Culture and Arts Association, have hosted a student event called The Gallery which showcases student artwork for the campus. On April 25, 2013, The Gallery was hosted by the three groups together and established as an event to be held each semester that will serve the development of the arts at Cairn for years to come.
